The Central Committee of CPI(ML) has strongly condemned a deliberate campaign of misinformation and defamation by certain newspapers and media portals which have misused the photograph of CPI(ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya in reports about a TMC leader in West Bengal with the same name.
In a statement issued on May 29, the CC said “it has come to our notice that some newspapers and media portals are misusing the photo of CPI(ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya presenting him as a TMC leader with the same name in West Bengal from whose house allegedly unaccounted cash has been recovered. We strongly condemn this mischievous campaign of misinformation and deliberate defamation.
The party said that media portals and newspapers including WION, DNA India, India.com, iNews Telugu, Samaja Live, India TV, and Swantra Vaartha have made this false and misleading mix-up.
The Central Committee has asked all such newspapers and media portals to correct this mistake and issue an apology and clarification to their readers. The party has sent cease and desist notices to the concerned media organisations, demanding immediate compliance, removal of the defamatory content and publication of proper clarification.
