CPI(ML) has strongly condemned the latest instance of state violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district, where bulldozers were unleashed on over 30 homes of Adivasi, Dalit, and poor families in Taalar village under Rajgarh police station limits. The demolitions, carried out without prior notice, have left entire families — including young children — homeless under the scorching summer sun, with no arrangements for rehabilitation.
A CPIML fact-finding team, led by Party State Secretary Comrade Sudhakar Yadav, visited the site on April 8 and met with the displaced families. Speaking after the visit, Comrade Sudhakar said, “The bulldozer has become a tool of oppression under the Yogi government. Even basic human decency was missing — people were not given time to retrieve food or belongings from their homes before the demolitions began.”
According to the team’s findings, 30 homes belonging to marginalised families were demolished while large landholdings of affluent locals in the same area remained untouched, exposing the caste-class bias in administrative action. “The bulldozer doesn’t touch the powerful; it only crushes the poor,” remarked CPIML leader Jeera Bharti, a member of the party’s State Standing Committee who was part of the visiting team.
The demolitions took place despite repeated Supreme Court rulings declaring such actions illegal when carried out without prior notice or rehabilitation plans. The apex court has not only reprimanded the UP government in similar past instances but also imposed hefty fines — including Rs. 10 lakh each in the Prayagraj demolition case and Rs. 25 lakh in Maharajganj where a journalist’s home was razed.
The visiting team also included leaders from the All India Agricultural and Rural Labour Association (AIARLA), including District Secretary Ramkesh Bharti, Ravi Shankar, Chinta, Suresh Biyar, Manju Kol, Rajesh, and Dinesh Bind.
CPIML has demanded immediate rehabilitation of the evicted families, full compensation, construction of permanent housing, and punitive action against the officials responsible. The party also reiterated its demand for an immediate halt to bulldozer operations targeting the homes of the poor.
