Dalit Women Face Increasing Attacks Under Yogi Govt in UP

In a statement issued on January 9, CPI(ML) UP Committee has condemned the rising incidents of harassment and attacks on Dalits and women in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting that Dalit women are the most vulnerable. The party demanded strict action in the recent case from Meerut, where a 20-year-old Dalit girl was abducted and her mother murdered for protesting, insisting that the perpetrators be punished in a manner that sets a precedent.

The party stated that criminals are emboldened by political protection, resulting in widespread oppression of marginalized communities. Dalit women are disproportionately affected, and the Meerut incident is the latest example of the state’s failure to protect them. Both the mother and daughter were agricultural labourers, and on their way to work, the girl was abducted and the mother killed. The criminals remain at large, and official responses have been inadequate, amounting to mere tokenism. CPIML demanded that the safety of the victim’s family and other Dalit families in the village be ensured.
