Gorakhpur Public Meeting Raises People’s Issues, Condemns BJP Double Engine Govt

A public meeting was organised by the All India Agricultural and Rural Labour Association (AIARLA) and CPI (ML) Liberation on September 7 at the village Jungle Pakdi veterinary hospital in Block Chargwa, Gorakhpur. Rajesh Sahni, UP State Committee member of CPI (ML) Liberation, addressing the gathering, said that the double engine government must be removed from power to ensure housing, loan waivers, and basic rights for the people.

The meeting passed a resolution on several key demands. It called for reversing the policy of granting village land to private companies and instead providing land to the landless poor for housing, hospitals, schools, and community facilities. The resolution also demanded an end to the displacement of poor people in the name of development without proper rehabilitation. It proposed waiving loans up to Rs. 2 lakh given by microfinance companies, banks, and private moneylenders.

The resolution sought to halt electricity privatisation, cancel smart meter schemes, waive electricity bills for the poor, and provide 200 units of free electricity. It emphasized the provision of year-round MNREGA work at a daily wage of Rs. 783 for unskilled workers. Additionally, it called for stopping the merger of primary schools and demolition of madrasas, while re-implementing the Right to Education Act. Finally, it demanded that deposits lost in the Sahara scam be returned with interest, highlighting the need to protect small investors and ensure accountability.

Rajesh Sahni emphasised that these fundamental issues must be raised politically at block, district, and state levels. The meeting was chaired by CPI (ML) State Committee member Manorma Chauhan and conducted by Vinod Bhardwaj, District Secretary of AIARLA.
