The Israeli military’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters is an act of piracy, a flagrant war crime, and yet another step in the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people of Gaza.
The flotilla, consisting of around 40 boats and participants from 47 countries, is a peaceful mission of solidarity and relief for the besieged people of Gaza. Onboard are medical professionals, journalists, people’s representatives, and activists, including Greta Thunberg, who is on her second journey to break the siege, symbolizing global solidarity against the US backed Israel’s genocidal war and blockade.
On Gandhi Jayanti, as we recall India’s anti-colonial legacy and freedom struggle, the Indian government must unequivocally reject Israel’s blatant violations of international law, its acts of piracy, its genocidal war against Gaza, and its ongoing colonial repression of the Palestinian people. India must stand firm with its historic anti-colonial commitments.
