Jamia Students Observe Resistance Day, Recall Police Brutality of 2019

AISA along with other student organisations organised a remembrance gathering and march inside the Jamia Millia Islamia campus in Delhi on December 15 to mark Jamia Resistance Day, commemorating the police brutality against students in 2019.

Hundreds of students participated in the programme, raising slogans in memory of the events of December 15, 2019 and demanding the release of anti-CAA activists who have been incarcerated for years without proper trial under sedition and other draconian laws.

Addressing the gathering, Comrade Saiyed of AISA called upon students to unite against what he described as the witch-hunting of students by the university administration in collusion with the Sangh Parivar. He said that punitive measures were being used to impose an atmosphere of repression on the campus, citing the recent campus ban notice issued against Comrade Saurabh as an example. He emphasised the need for collective resistance to this undemocratic clampdown.

Following the meeting, students marched up to the Zakir Hussain Library, where the programme concluded with the recitation of songs and poetry by students.

Speakers said that December 15 continues to symbolise Jamia’s legacy of resistance. They underlined the importance of keeping the memory of the police assault alive and transforming it into a sustained struggle against the growing repression faced by the campus community.

The programme concluded with the call to remember December 15 and to intensify the demand for the release of all political prisoners.
