Hundreds of people, including family members of Shahzad Ali, participated in a protest demonstration on June 2 in Siwan led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation, demanding justice for Shahzad Ali, who was lynched by a mob on May 30.
Shahzad Ali, a resident of Shivrajpur village under Barharia police station limits, was taken away by a group of villagers, tied to a tree, and brutally assaulted. He later succumbed to his injuries. According to Mobina Khatoon, Shahzad Ali’s wife, Shahzad was forcibly taken away by villagers, tied to a tree, and beaten to death. The communal-hatred killing has sparked anger among local residents and family members, who joined the protest in large numbers.
The demonstrators raised slogans demanding the immediate arrest of all accused, a fair and impartial investigation, ₹10 lakh compensation for Shahzad’s family, and a government job for one of his family members.
The murder FIR names Amit Chaudhary alias Avadhesh Chaudhary, Pramendra Manjhi, Chhatthu Manjhi, Avadh Kishore Chaudhary, Guddu Manjhi, Ranjan Chaudhary, and Mantu Kumar, among others, as accused.
Addressing the protest, CPI(ML) Liberation leaders condemned the killing and accused the administration of failing to ensure justice and security for the victim’s family. They said that mob violence cannot be tolerated and demanded swift action against all those named in the FIR.
