On February 2, a joint delegation of AICCTU, RYA, AISA and AIPWA submitted a deputation at Park Street Police Station in Kolkata, demanding the immediate release of the Oly Pub employee who was framed through a communally orchestrated ploy. The delegation included, Basudev Basu of AICCTU, Barsha Baral of AISA, Ranajay of RYA and Chandrasmita of AIPWA
The delegation stated that the entire incident was a deliberate attempt to create communal tension by targeting diverse food habits and India’s pluralistic culture. They demanded strict legal action against those behind such communal provocations.
Text of the letter as follows:
With due respect we as concerned citizens and members several organizations mentioned below would like to share some grave concern regarding the disturbing and unfortunate incident that took place at the Oly Pub on 30/1/2026 and thereupon lodge a complaint against the perpetrator Sayak Chakraborty. Mr Sayak Chakraborty who also happens to be a social media influencer has unleashed a alarming hullabaloo in the social media and has incited communal tensions in the society. According to many his actions were intentionally curated to stoke some communal frenzy in the society. As an influencer Mr Chakraborty may draw considerable clout which we as concerned citizens think may aggravate the already politically and communally charged up situation of the state.
Moreover with great angst and perturbation what we are seeing is that instead of arresting Mr Sayak Chakraborty the Police has arrested the employee of the Oly Pub Mr Nizamuddin based on a complaint by Mr Chakraborty without properly investigating the matter. This poor employee's employment, life and livelihood is also at stake. Many democratic citizens of the state are also taking a deep concern about Mr Nizamuddin's and his family's security, given the scenario of growing mob culture and escalating mob violence with communal intent in our Nation.
We demand immediate unconditional release of Mr Nizamuddin on one hand and to take Mr Sayak Chakraborty as accountable for spreading communal hatred and tension in society and bring him under purview of justice and start investigation and legal process against him. We demand exemplary punishment should be delivered to the main culprit i.e. Mr Sayak Chakraborty.
