On the occasion of the freedom fighter Kunwar Singh Vijayotsav, the CPI(ML) organised a series of marches across Patna, Ara, Jehanabad, Nawada, and Arwal, emphasising the protection of the shared heritage of martyrdom from the 1857 uprising. The marches paid tribute to the leaders of the 1857 rebellion, including Kunwar Singh, Peer Ali Khan, Zulfiqar Ali, Jeevadhar Singh, and Haider Ali, who fought against British colonial rule. These marches were held in response to ongoing attacks on this shared legacy by fascist forces.
In Patna, the march began from GPO Golambar and culminated at Kunwar Singh Park, where a memorial service was held. The gathering observed a minute’s silence in honour of tourists killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam earlier that morning. The violence in Jammu and Kashmir exposed the falsity behind the BJP-led government’s claims of normalcy in the region. The gathering also paid tribute to Pope Francis.
CPI(ML) State Secretary Kunal, addressing the gathering, highlighted that the 1857 rebellion was the first national response to imperialist forces and symbolised the emergence of a new India, where Hindus and Muslims united against British colonialism. He condemned the current BJP-led government's attempts to distort the legacy of the freedom struggle, particularly its refusal to acknowledge the contribution of Muslims to India’s independence. He further stressed the need to resist the BJP’s efforts to transform India into a Hindu nation and foster an environment of hatred against Muslims.
Senior party leader Comrade KD Yadav stated that Kunwar Singh represented the anti-imperialist struggle and that the party would continue to uphold the spirit of unity and resistance against forces attempting to undermine India’s pluralistic heritage.
In a firm declaration, CPI(ML) reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Bihar's Ganga-Jamuni culture and vowed to protect the nation’s shared heritage of freedom.
