On 9 March 2026 CPI(ML) MP from Karakat Lok Sabha constituency Raja Ram Singh met women protesting in New Delhi after losing their life savings in the LUCC scam. The delegation submitted a memorandum to him with their demand that the government ensure the immediate return of the money taken from thousands of investors. Raja Ram Singh assured them that he would raise the issue in the Lok Sabha. Among those who met him were Saraswati Devi, Sangeeta Devi, Ganga Bhandari and Aruna Bhatt. CPI(ML) Central Committee member Shweta Raj was also present.
The women are among thousands of investors who deposited their savings in LUCC, the Loni Urban Multi State Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society. Many of the victims are women who invested their hard-earned money after trusting the company because it was registered in several states under the Cooperative Department of the Union Agriculture Ministry.
In Uttarakhand the company operated 35 branches where people deposited their savings. Deposits began in 2018. By 2024 serious irregularities came to light and the company shut down, leaving investors without their money. Around twenty-five lakh investors in Uttarakhand have been affected.
In November 2025 the Uttarakhand High Court ordered a CBI investigation into the nearly five hundred crore rupee LUCC scam. The Central Bureau of Investigation registered cases against forty six individuals including film actors Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath who promoted the company.
Women investors have been leading a sustained struggle demanding the return of their savings. On 8 March 2025 women held a demonstration outside the residence of the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. From 20 March 2025 affected women began a continuous dharna.
Under the leadership of Saraswati Devi from Uttarakhand’s Srinagar the women announced on 26 February 2026 that they would march to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Police in Uttarakhand stopped them from moving ahead from Srinagar during the day. The women then began walking towards Delhi during the night and continued their march on foot.
After covering nearly three hundred and fifty kilometres they reached New Delhi. On 8 March 2026 they attempted to march towards Rashtrapati Bhavan along with migrants from Uttarakhand living in Delhi, but the police blocked them.
Raja Ram Singh said that CPI(ML) stands in full solidarity with the ongoing struggle of the women and their fight for justice.
