Mass Protest in Bhojpur Demands Justice for Laharpa Caste Massacre Victims

Laharpa Caste Massacre Victims

A massive gathering (Pratirodh Sabha) was held in Agiaon block of Bhojpur district on 3 May 2025, following the brutal caste-based massacre in Laharpa village on 20 April. The event was led by CPI(ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, who visited the site of the killings and met the bereaved families. CPI(ML) State Secretary Kunal, Ara MP Sudama Prasad, and other senior party leaders also participated, alongside members of allied Mahagathbandhan parties.

The gathering came in the wake of a horrific attack in which a feudal-criminal gang, reportedly linked to BJP-backed elements, opened indiscriminate fire during a wedding celebration. The assault claimed the lives of four men from the OBC communities—Yadavs and Kushwahas—and left several others injured. The assailants allegedly raised slogans in the name of the Karni Sena while carrying out the massacre.

“The nearest police station, Agiaon, is just five minutes from the site,” said Comrade Dipankar, “yet it took them over an hour to arrive. Even now, nearly two weeks later, the key accused remain at large. Six of the fourteen accused have surrendered, but the main perpetrator, Bablu Singh—closely associated with senior BJP leaders including former MP RK Singh—is evading arrest comfortably.”

Dipankar added, “Bhojpur is determined to secure justice for the victims of the Laharpa massacre. This is not just a case of criminal violence — it is a targeted attack on marginalised communities and a direct challenge to social justice in Bihar.”

The CPI(ML) condemned the massacre as a re-emergence of feudal terror under political patronage and vowed to intensify the struggle for justice. The protest gathering called on the Bihar government to act swiftly, arrest all named accused, and provide adequate protection and compensation to the affected families.
