Soon after the formation of the new government in Bihar, bulldozers have been unleashed in the name of removing encroachments in Patna and several districts. Dalits, the poor, small traders and street vendors are facing demolition drives. In strong opposition, CPI(ML), AIARLA, Street Vendors Union and the Vyapari Mahasangh (Traders Federation) organised statewide protests across Bihar on 3 December 2025. The main slogan was: Bulldozer Nahi, Parcha Do - Rozi-Roti Ki Surksha Do! (Not Bulldozers, Provide Land Rights – Provide Guarantee of Livelihood!).
A massive dharna was held at the Gardanibagh protest site near the Assembly in Patna. Marches were organised in Ara, Buxar, Gaya, Darbhanga, Begusarai, Nawada, Jehanabad, Siwan, Arwal, Motihari and other districts. Protesters warned the government to immediately stop the bulldozer actions.
Addressing the protest in Patna, former CPI(ML) MLA Mahboob Alam said that BJP now dominates the Bihar government. The moment Samrat Chaudhary took charge of the Home Department he began bulldozer actions on ordinary people. But BJP should not remain in any illusion. Even if they grabbed the election through dishonest means, Bihar’s poor are alert to their rights. He demanded an immediate halt to bulldozer drives and proper housing arrangements for all needy families.
CPI(ML) MLC Shashi Yadav said that BJP and JDU should not be arrogant after winning the election. They misled women voters and captured power. This does not give them a licence to crush Dalits and the poor with bulldozers. All of Bihar will strongly resist this.
Paliganj CPI(ML) MLA Sandeep Saurabh said that before elections people were forced to pay bribes of ten thousand rupees and now bulldozers are being used against them. We will never accept this. The poor of Bihar will wage an even longer struggle for their rights. The NDA government is a protector of corporates and land mafias, and the poor are being evicted for their benefit.
Gopal Ravidas said that bulldozers were run on the homes of the poor in Shivanandan Nagar in Nalanda, the Chief Minister’s home district, even though these families have lived there since the 1970s. What kind of justice is this.
Divya Gautam said that in the name of encroachment, urban poor are being evicted everywhere in Patna. The BJP JDU government has shown its real face as soon as the election ended. Even if we lost the election, our fight on people’s issues will continue.
Shahzade Alam of Street Vendors’ union aid that Patna Municipal Corporation itself issued vending certificates and under the PM self-employment scheme loans from ten thousand to fifty thousand rupees were provided on that basis. Then why are carts of street vendors being seized and fines imposed in the name of encroachment. He demanded that the earlier situation of all Dalit, poor and vendor families affected by bulldozers in Patna and across the state be restored or proper alternative arrangements be made.
Marches were organised in Ara, Buxar, Gaya, Darbhanga, Begusarai, Nawada, Jehanabad, Siwan, Arwal, Motihari and other districts.
