Parliament: CPIML and INDIA Bloc Condemn Price Hike and Modi Govt’s Silence Amid US–Israel war on Iran

Members of Parliament from CPI(ML) Liberation and other opposition parties held protests in Parliament against the sharp rise in gas prices and the Modi government’s refusal to reject the ongoing US–Israel imperialist war on Iran and the expanding conflict across West Asia. They noted that Modi’s refusal to condemn this Trump’s colonial expedition is an insult to India’s historic anti-colonial legacy and solidiaty with peoples of the Global South.

On 10 March, CPI(ML) MPs Raja Ram Singh and Sudama Prasad joined Rajkumar Roat and Abhay Kumar Sinha in a protest inside Parliament with the call ‘No to Price Hike’ and ‘No to War’. The MPs condemned the sharp increase in gas prices triggered by the ongoing war and the complete failure of the Modi government to provide relief to the people.

The protest highlighted the severe impact of rising LPG prices on ordinary citizens and small businesses. Restaurants across the country are shutting down as commercial LPG cylinders become increasingly unavailable and unaffordable. At the same time the rise in domestic LPG prices is placing an unbearable burden on working people and threatening the livelihood and economic security of millions of households.

CPI(ML) MPs pointed out that while the cost of essential commodities continues to rise, the Modi government maintains a disturbing silence on both the economic impact of the conflict and the hardships faced by the people. The MPs condemned this silence on the US–Israel war and the spiralling prices of gas and other essential items.

On 9 March, a joint protest of opposition parties took place in Parliament under the banner of the INDIA bloc. Sudama Prasad joined the protest which strongly criticised the Modi government for refusing to condemn on the US–Israel imperialist-colonial war on Iran and the escalating conflict across West Asia.

Opposition MPs also raised concerns about the government’s compromised trade deal with the United States and warned that India’s agriculture, sovereignty and national interests cannot be bartered away. The protest asserted that the people of India are bearing the economic consequences of global conflict while the government refuses to take a clear stand or offer meaningful relief.

CPI(ML) MPs reiterated that the government must immediately address the rising cost of essential commodities, protect livelihoods and adopt an independent and principled position on international developments rather than maintaining silence in the face of imperialist war and economic distress.
