On 4 October 2025, a massive march was taken out in Kolkata (West Bengal) waving Palestinian flags at the joint call of Left parties. The march, which began from Rabindra Sadan and concluded at the Lenin Statue on Dharmatala, demanded an immediate end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza and condemned the Israeli attack, detention, and arrests of activists aboard the Gaza-bound humanitarian aid flotilla, Global Sumud.
Comrade Atanu Chakravarty, CPI(ML) Liberation State Committee member, speaking at the rally, said that the Israeli assault on the flotilla and the relentless bombing of Gaza are part of a genocidal campaign carried out with full backing from US imperialism. He said that while people across the world are standing up for Palestine, the Modi government has chosen to surrender India’s independent foreign policy to the US–Israel axis.
Condemning the attack on the flotilla and the genocide, he said that the people of India, who carry the historic legacy of the anti-colonial freedom movement, will always stand with the liberation of Palestine. He said that the Indian government must rescind all military, trade, and diplomatic agreements with apartheid Israel.
Saluting the participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international act of people-to-people solidarity, the rally called for intensifying the international struggle to break the siege on Gaza, end the genocide, and end the occupation. Condemning the US-backed Israeli war crimes, the rally demanded the immediate release of all detained activists, including Greta Thunberg and others from the Global Sumud flotilla. The march also denounced the silence of the Indian government amid the escalating genocide against Palestinians.
