On January 9
On January 9, 2026, thousands of ASHA workers across Uttar Pradesh took part in a statewide protest called by AICCTU. Workers held processions, dharnas, and demonstrations, including gheraoing the offices of district commissioners, raising their demands.
The ASHA workers condemned the insulting remarks made by Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya against their movement, demanding a public apology. They reiterated that their strike, which began on 15 December 2025, will continue until the state government grants all ASHA workers government employee status and ensures fair, dignified wages.
The protest highlighted the resolve of ASHA workers, who are standing firm against the double-engine government’s attempts to deny them recognition, rights, and respect.
