The Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions and Sectoral Federations/Associations met on 8 December 2025 in hybrid mode and decided to embark on a countrywide General Strike in February 2026 against the anti-worker labour codes. The exact date of the strike will be announced after the next meeting on 22 December 2025. It welcomed support from all opposition parties demanding the repeal of these codes.

Workers, including non-unionised employees, journalists, students and youth joined the protests, opposing the labour codes and other anti-people policies.

The meeting noted that state chapters of the platform will meet within a week to plan a massive campaign, including jathas, rallies, mobilisations, door-to-door campaigns, and intensified sectoral struggles. These actions will build momentum leading to the general strike as the first phase of the struggle.

The Central Trade Unions noted that it intensify the struggle in coordinate with Samyukta Kisan Morcha for MSP, loan waiver, and against the Seed Bill and Electricity Amendment Bill 2025.

The platform called upon all opposition parties, youth, students, and people from all sections of society to join in solidarity to protect the basic rights of working people and safeguard the democratic fabric of the country.
