The All India Progressive Women's Association (AIPWA), along with several women's organisations and civil society groups under the banner of the National Coalition for Women's Reservation, organised a press conference at the Press Club of India on July 10, demanding the immediate and unconditional implementation of the Women's Reservation Bill in the forthcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The speakers asserted that the Women's Reservation Act, passed unanimously by Parliament in 2023, must be implemented without linking it to the proposed delimitation exercise. They criticised the BJP government's attempt to tie the implementation of the legislation to delimitation through the "Nari Shakti Vandan" framework, saying it was being used to advance a communal political agenda and delay women's political representation.
Addressing the press conference, AIPWA National Secretary Comrade Shweta Raj said that women's organisations and the opposition had collectively resisted the BJP's communal agenda during the debate on the Bill in Parliament. She said it was unacceptable that, despite its unanimous passage in 2023, the legislation had still not been implemented, accusing the BJP government of betraying the women of India.
The National Coalition for Women's Reservation demanded that the Women's Reservation Bill be implemented immediately and unconditionally on the existing Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assembly constituencies, without waiting for delimitation.
