Students and Gen Z youth from different sections of society gathered in a protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and vote theft in front of the State Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram, following a joint call by CPI(ML) Liberation, AISA and RYA on October 13.
The protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, an end to the Election Commission’s surrender to the Sangh Parivar-BJP’s fascist agenda, and the restoration of voting rights to 13 crore people deprived of their franchise through the illegal and discriminatory SIR process.
CPI(ML) Liberation Kerala State Secretary Comrade Johnson Ambatt inaugurated the programme. Comrade Anagha, an AISA activist who led the struggle against institutionalised caste discrimination at Malayalam University, also addressed the gathering.
The protest strongly condemned the police brutality unleashed against young protesters in Delhi, sexual violence against women, and the growing collusion between the police and the RSS in unleashing mob attacks on protesters. It also condemned the police practice of placing opposition leaders under preventive detention en masse.
