Jharkhand: Workers Lock Balamukund Factory Gates Against Unjust Termination

Hundreds of workers locked the gates of Balamukund Factory in Giridih district, Jharkhand, on May 26 in solidarity with the workers who were unjustly terminated by the factory management.

The struggle has been continuing since 14 March 2024, when workers began an indefinite peaceful dharna under the banner of Asangathit Mazdoor Morcha (Unorganised Workers’ Front)  and CPI(ML), demanding the reinstatement of 5 workers removed from work without any valid reason and the fulfilment of other just demands.

Despite the long-running dharna, the district administration has failed to take any concrete steps in favour of the workers. The factory management has also refused to address the workers’ demands or engage in any meaningful dialogue. This anti-worker arrogance of the management and the silence of the administration have pushed the workers to intensify their struggle.

CPI(ML) and Asangathit Mazdoor Morcha demanded the immediate reinstatement of all 5 terminated workers, acceptance of all just demands of the workers, and an end to the management’s attacks on workers’ rights.
